Save the Date: Why do Brides Dream of Saying “I Do” in June?

As event planners, we party all year round, but the summer months are naturally a slower time in almost all occupations. We began to wonder, however, what the legendary appeal of the month of June is to a bride. We did a little research and came up with some pretty cool historic info.

This tradition dates back to Roman times when they celebrated the festival of the deity Juno and his wife Jupiter, who was the goddess of marriage and childbirth, on the first day of June. In Victorian times, the tradition is thought to have continued because there were flowers available for wedding décor, and the scent of flowers helped to mask the stink….er scent…of body odor.

In today’s modern world, flowers are available all year round and I think we can all agree that the advent of deodorant was a plus, so why the June appeal?

For one, most people have an easier time taking an extended leave from work, thus allowing for all of the wedding festivities and of course the honeymoon.

Guests (especially those with children) are more flexible with their schedules since the kids are out of school and their jobs are being a bit more lenient with working hours as well.

For those interested in destinations weddings, (believe it or not) most tropical and mountainous locations consider summer their off-season, allowing couples to spend less on their venue of choice.

Despite all of the benefits of opting for a June wedding, it is June, which means that, in most locations, it’s gonna be HOT. Consider the following tips when choosing this most popular wedding month:

  1. Consider more casual attire. If you’re getting married on the beach in San Juan, allow your guests to wear less formal attire. That guy wearing the Tommy Bahama shirt instead of a 3-piece suit will thank you.
  2. Choose a date that works for the most important people in your life. Of course, not everyone you invite to your wedding, regardless of the date, will be able to attend, but if your maid of honor is vacationing with her family in Panama Beach, you might want to re-think things.
  3. Keep your (and everyone else’s) cool. Most brides dream of a gorgeous ceremony on the beach at sunset, but after your “I do’s”, bring your guests inside for the reception. Again, June is hot, ya’ll.

We hope you’ve found these tips helpful! Happy June wedding planning!

Around the World with Josh

Josh’s Bar Mitzvah celebration took his guests around the world in the span of one fun filled night! pic 9

Held at the Buckhead Club, Let’s Celebrate did an amazing job of bringing Josh’s worldly vision to life; from cool vintage postcards, to centerpieces of bright globes and flags from around the world.

pic 4

The guests were greeted by a fabulous arrangement of photos of Josh in different locations around the world, and we’d like to thank Button it Up for their creativity on this display. Another huge thanks to Ross Cohen for capturing all of the memorable moments throughout the evening as well!

As guests arrived, they noshed on fun appetizers such as artichoke and goat cheese fritters, and smoked salmon canapé, while the kids got the party started in the party room with mini hot dogs and pizza.

Dinner consisted of a beautiful fresh salad, salmon, grilled asparagus and a PASTA STATION, among other items. Yum! We’re getting hungry again just thinking about it!

pic 2Once everyone had had their fill, the party kicked into high gear thanks to VIBE and MC Philli. The dance floor was packed and a great time was had by all!

The kids were entertained by the always popular Button it Up green screen and by AIR ILLUSTRATIONS, where they all got that “fresh ink” that their parents always forbade. 😉

James Futch caught all the action on camera as he circled the room capturing memories to last a lifetime.

pic 7The evening came to a close with a sweet ending; cookies and an ice cream sundae bar for the kids, and Sweet Temptation minis and a crepe station for the adults.

All of the kids left with a cool blanket, some candy and a trip around the world that didn’t cost their parents a dime!

Congratulations Josh, and thanks for taking us all on this fabulous journey around the world with you!

Dear Tara,

I can’t thank you enough for the amazing job that you did coordinating Josh’s bar mitzvah this weekend.  The planning and the event were flawless.  Your guidance through-out the whole process was invaluable.  You helped us choose an event venue that we NEVER would have found on our own.  The vendors that you work with are exceptional.   I felt like the event was always being handled by capable professionals that cared as much as I did about the details and the process.  You were there to keep me on track and to make sure I was doing the right things at the right time.

On the day and night of the party, I didn’t worry about a single thing and only focused on having fun and enjoying the moment.  You make things happen and you do them well.  All of my family and friends were blown away by the attention to detail.  From the decorations, to the invitations, to the placement of the tables you made sure everything was done right.  You and your staff watched over my kids to make sure that they were okay and having fun all evening.  The event was amazing and I wouldn’t use anyone else to make this happen.

Your reputation precedes you in the event planning industry in Atlanta.  This is for good reason. Your hard work and conscientiousness have made you the “go to planner”.   Everyone knows that Tara knows how to throw a great party.   I am so glad that I was directed to you several years ago  and that we hit it off immediately.

Thank you for everything and I am looking forward to working with you again on the next one in 2017!!!

Cinco de Mayo – An….American Holiday?

Cinco de Mayo—or the fifth of May—commemorates the Mexican army’s 1862 victory over France at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War.

Upon some research on the topic, we learned that this is a relatively minor holiday in Mexico; yet in the United States, Cinco de Mayo has evolved into a celebration of Mexican culture and heritage, particularly in areas with large Mexican-American populations.

Now that you’ve gotten your history lesson for the day, let’s talk about celebrating this festive day at the start of May.

Every Cinco de Mayo Party has to have great margaritas, but what about these tiny and tart margarita shots? They’re cute, and oh so refreshing.

Mix up boring guacamole with the fruity punch of fresh mango. Click here for the recipe and say “Thanks Food Network!”

How about a mix of food and booze? These Pineapple Tequila Skewers are gorgeous, festive, and are guaranteed to impress your guests and your taste buds. Simply take chunks of pineapple and soak them in tequila; refrigerate for 1 hour. Remove, save all of the excess tequila for drinks, and thread the pineapple onto skewers, dip them in coarse salt, and garnish with a lime wedge.

Final food thought: Instead of chips and salsa, queso, or a taco bar, consider this ahhh-mazing looking Mexican pizza with fresh, colorful toppings. Delicioso!

No Cinco de Mayo Fiesta is complete without some ‘spicy’ décor, so try on these chili pepper lights for size. They’re sure to keep the crowd ‘lit’ the whole day through.

Finally, whip up some Sombrero Cookies for your pals; they’re festive, sweet, and so easy the kids can help out too.

Enjoy your Cinco de Mayo fiesta safely and que tenga un buen dia! (have a great day!)

Dear Mom: You’re the Greatest.

Mother’s Day is just around the corner and we know that sometimes flowers and dinner out just don’t seem like enough for the cook, laundry do-er (yes, that’s a word), chauffeur, schedule-maker, superwoman you call mom.

We perused the internet for some different Mother’s Day gifts that she will actually use and found some pretty cool stuff.

4126-dzumiL

O.M.G. It’s a water bottle/money/key holder. How great is this for the active, on-the-go mom? Now she can go to the park with just the essentials and not pack an entire suitcase worth of stuff! Genius. Click here for this awesome gadget.

And how about THIS?! How many times have you seen mom pouring a chunky hot mess of soup into a tupperware, only to find her leaping back as the contents spill out of the side of the pot? Problem. Solved. Click here to check it out.

While we’re on the subject of hot liquids in the kitchen, check out this pot/strainer in one! Now all she has to do is boil pasta and/or veggies and pour the water out of the SAME pot. This is clutch, people. Trust us. Click here.

As much as moms love ways to make their lives easier, they’re also suckers for a sweet, heartfelt gift like this adorable Mason Jar of Love. Simply write down things you love about her, things you’re thankful for, and memories you’ve shared. More than any gadget in the world, this is the stuff that mom dreams are made of.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there. We hope your days are filled with love, relaxation and chocolate. 😉

Let it Rain.

maxresdefault

It’s every bride’s worst nightmare: rain on her wedding day! They say it also happens to be lucky, but I guarantee you that no bride will ever agree with that.

Regardless, the weather stops for no one, so we thought it appropriate on this rainy, Spring week to share a few tips on how to stay dry (and calm) on this most important day of your life.

  1. Purchase colorful rain boots and a matching umbrella. This way, you’ll be more relaxed knowing you’re prepared to venture outside (when there’s a break in the weather), and this cute combo will make for some equally cute photos.
  2. Be flexible with your “first look”. Some couples are adamant on not seeing one another until the ceremony, but if you’re not one of them, consider taking photos before the ceremony if the weather permits that particular time slot as opposed to during cocktail hour.
  3. Bring towels. Once again, if you get lucky, and the weather breaks for a few, make sure you are able to dry off outdoor props, like benches or steps for example.
  4. Have a backup location! You’ll thank yourself for the peace of mind you’ll have if you know that, no matter what Mother Nature throws at you, you’ll be able to capture beautiful and memorable photos on your special day.
  5. Ask your makeup artist to weatherproof your makeup. There are some products on the market that claim to be weatherproof, and there is even a product called Mist & Fix by Makeup Forever that will seal in all of that gorgeous work your makeup artist did.
  6. Lastly (and most importantly), use your wedding planner….(ahem….that’s us!) Any great wedding/event planner knows the in’s and out’s of the venues in their market and can recommend alternate locations to take photos so that nothing will rain on your parade. We even provide umbrellas for your guests, so that they can make it from their cars into the party without the touch of a single drop. 1894189o

We hope you’ve found these rainy day tips helpful!

Just remember, the most important things to do if you find yourself in this situation are breathe, smile, and trust the process.

Jack of All Trades.

Jack held his Bar Mitzvah celebration at the Dunwoody Country Club and the first thing we need to mention is the FOOD!   We literally cannot list all of the delicious creations the DCC dreamed up, but some of the highlights were: coconut shrimp, caprese skewers, and a beef carpaccio crostini to start things off.

party1234

Following, the adults enjoyed entrees that included a mac ‘n cheese station (WHATTT?!?!?), parmesan fries, salmon and a sushi station. A. SUSHI. STATION. The kids enjoyed classic kid fare such as pigs in a blanket, sliders, chicken fingers, and fries.

Whew! Moving on.

Dream Designs did a wonderful job on the décor; simple, chic and to the point. We loved the cool feel of the candlelight and these retro silver pillows.

Atlanta Fever’s DJ Mello rocked the house for Jack and his friends, but Jack had a little musical surprise of his own: he played piano along with his guitar teacher to the delight of the crowd.

As the party raged on, the surprises kept coming. Jack’s mom and dad arranged for Collision Course from Best American Dance Crew to perform, and perform they did! They brought the house down and even signed autographs and took pictures with all of the kids!

As if this party didn’t have enough entertainment, they even featured Alex, a strolling musician, who dazzled the guests during cocktail hour.

And finally, what’s a great party without a great photographer? Scensations did a great job capturing all of the fun surprises throughout the evening.

The party drew to a close with every kid’s favorite: ice cream. A big thanks to the Good Humor Ice Cream Cart for their sweet treats. The adults enjoyed a more mature but equally sweet approach to dessert, a mini dessert display.

party1716

A big CONGRATS to Jack on this awesome accomplishment, we had a great time being a part of your special night! You are one lucky boy to have a mom that cared so much about every detail and making sure it was just perfect for you.

Once everyone had had their fill, it was time to hit the dance floor to the cool grooves of DJ Sammy Rosenberg!

Noa Grace may be little, but she knows how to throw a BIG party! Her celebration took place at The Temple in Midtown and was so glittery and sparkly!

NoaGrace_014

YES Event Design and Peachtree Tents and Events did a fabulous job on the décor, from the gold sequined tablecloths, to the elaborate centerpieces to the stunning table number display! Not only was dinner delicious, the chocolate truffle dessert pops were the stuff of dreams. Yogli Mogli was also onsite to ensure that all of the younger guests got their dessert fix, and the Baker’s Man created the most beautiful and delicious cake for Noa Grace’s special day.

Many of our Mitzvah guests are party pros during these “Mitzvah years” and we heard murmurs of the appearance of a special guest amongst the crowd. Perhaps it was the elaborate setup Rhythm and Active Productions  had behind them, complete with big screen projectors and tons of high tech music amplification gadgets.

Turns out that the murmurs were true and to the delight and mounting anticipation of the crowd, Jewish rapper Matisyahu emerged onto the scene and brought the house down! He sang a short set to the crowd’s delight and then took the family and close friends backstage for a meet and greet. Even WE were starstruck by this incredible special guest!

NoaGrace_089

This party had it all; from the décor to the music to the fabulous food; and it was all caught on tape by the fabulous James Futch and photographs by Robin Nathan.

Every guest had a rockin’ good time and all of the kids got to head home on this chilly January evening with custom “NG” Hoodies and souvenir photos courtesy of Button It Up Green screen. Hot chocolate and mini funnel cakes topped off the evening. Talk about the VIP treatment!

Congrats to Noa Grace on this amazing accomplishment and a smashin’ party!

Party ROCK!

Avi’s party was more like a hoppin’ Saturday night downtown than a Bar Mitzvah. His mom and dad promised him a big party, and boy did they deliver!

pic 5

A Kosher Touch (known around town for their incredible cuisine) crafted handmade cocktails and amazing appetizers, some of which included tiny pulled achiote chicken tacos paired with margaritas in mini patron glasses. They served a stunning burger bar and crafted a dessert display that we literally had to stand guard in front of.

pic 6

Held at Tongue and Groove in trendy Buckhead, guests were greeted at the door by T&G bouncers.

As the guests entered, they were greeted by bright lights and brilliant colors of green and white. Avi wanted the venue to speak for itself, so requested that Let’s Celebrate and Balloonacy take a “less is more” approach to the décor. As you can see, it looked fabulous!

pic 7

AJH Entertainment literally brought the house down with their amazing energy and all heart pumping music of the stereotypical club scene. Mom and dad flew them in from New Jersey as they had seen them at a previous party, and they were nothing short of AWESOME.

One of the most unique parts of this event was fire dancer, Emerald Lane. She was so mesmerizing that the crowd couldn’t help but literally stop what they were doing as they watched her.

pic 3

Button it Up photo booth set up shop near the front of the venue and was a huge hit amongst all of the guests. They had the graffiti screen so guests could edit their photos with; adding hearts, mustaches and whatever else the kids are doing these days. 😉

pic 2

As if the entertainment for this particular evening wasn’t already spectacular, Magician Michael Boone dazzled and delighted the guests as he worked the room throughout the evening.

Finally, the Mitzvah Man captured tons of great shots of this amazing event.

The evening came to a sweet end with the aforementioned dessert bar, passed sorbet cones, and cotton candy, courtesy of Carnival Promotions.

Avi would like to thank all of his friends and family for celebrating with him on his special day; it was, without a doubt, a night to remember!
